OUR TRAVEL, PHOTOGRAPHY, AND VIDEOGRAPHY RESOURCES

Here are all our favorite resources that we rely on for planning our trips, the backend tools that we have relied on to continue to grow this blog, and also some of Melissa’s favorite clothing sources to make sure her wardrobe is as fresh as possible during our trips. You’ll also find all our most trusted photography and videography equipment that we have tested and used throughout the past 2 years. We have experimented with many different combinations of easy to carry gear to travel with and it feels good that we finally figured out what works for us.

Our Current Camera Gear that We Travel With

Cameras

  • Sony a6500 – We have had this camera for over 2 years now and love it! The image and video quality combined with the small size makes this the perfect travel camera.
  • Sony RX100 V – Such a powerful camera in such a small package. We always carry this with us and mostly use it as our time lapse and slow motion camera.

Lenses

  • Sony Zeiss 16-70mm f/4 OSS – This is our favorite lens that we have on our camera at nearly all times. The range covers almost everything we need and the f/4 does surprisingly well in low light combined with the OSS and the Sony’s low light performance.
  • Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens – This is our go to lens for video work, but we also use it in certain low light situations where we need a wider angle. The auto focus is so good on this lens!
  • Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens – The first lens we ever got and it’s still one of our favorites. We use this mainly for product photos, portraits and certain low light situations.
  • Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 OSS – Our newest lens to the collection and it hasn’t disappointed. We have snapped some of our favorite photos of all time with this lens and the f/4 is more than enough for most situations.

Drone

  • DJI Mavic Pro – We don’t carry this with us as much as we used to, but we’re still just as impressed with the quality of the drone and the perspectives you can achieve with it.

Backpack

  • Peak Design Everyday Backpack – Our one and only backpack! Such good quality and fits everything we need. Its more expensive than we wanted to pay for a backpack, but has held up and is worth every penny we spent.

Camera Filters

Memory Card

  • SanDisk Extreme Pro SDSX UHS-I Memory Card – Not a very exciting thing to buy, but this one has always been reliable for us. Most importantly these cards are designed for burst mode shooting and Full HD, and 4K video recording.

Portable Hard Drives

Other Videography Accessories

  • Moza Air Gimbal – We don’t use this as much anymore, but still rely on it if we need smooth movements in our video work.
  • Zoom H4N Pro Handy Recorder – We love this field recorder and use it to capture on location sound for our videos and also at home for voice overs. It’s really easy to use and the sound quality is as good as it gets.
  • SmallRig Cage with NATO Handle for Sony a6500 – We like using this a lot more than a gimble now as its easier to set up and gives your footage a nice hand held look.
  • Rode VideoMicro Compact On-Camera Microphone – Our favorite way to record sound in camera is to use this small microphone.
  • Feelworld T7 7 Inch Camera 4k Field Monitor – One of the worst things about the Sony a6500 is its crappy screen. To get around this while shooting video, we use this relatively cheap, but good quality field monitor. Definitely makes shooting video much easier.

Replacement Batteries

  • RavPower NP-FW50 Batteries for Sony a6500 – Battery life is pretty weak on Sony a6500 so we have a bunch of these replacement batteries. These don’t hold a charge as well as the official Sony batteries, but are good enough and comes with a nice charging station.
  • Wasabi Power NP-BX1 Batteries for Sony RX100 V – Battery life is pretty weak on the Sony RX100 V so we have a bunch of these too. These don’t hold a charge as well as the official Sony batteries, but are good enough and are cheap.
